XIII. - Death
Shrouded in the folds of a dark cloak, the somber figure of Death serves as a memento of the inevitable transformation awaiting us all. In its bony fingers, it embraces the lush flower of life, which heralds spring and life itself. Skull piles form two towers, between which the warm golden light of the setting sun filters down on us. On the left, the skulls of religious leaders, and on the right, the remains of secular leaders, kings, and queens, convey through the centuries that no matter what wealth, power, or influence you have gained in the material plane, in death, these all become nothing. The presence of the Death card does not signify actual death, but rather the necessary end of things, and the natural cycle of rebirth and renewal. It encourages us to let go of the past to welcome the future.
